OCTOBER 4, 2007: INAUGURAL EVENT RECAP
Got green? Northwest Ohio does.
The Northwest Ohio Green Building Council, a newly formed branch of the Detroit Regional Chapter of the US Green Building Council (USGBC), has joined the ever-expanding network of USGBC chapters and branches, providing sustainable resources and educational opportunities to local building professionals. On October 4, the new branch introduced itself to the public at a kick-off event hosted by Owens Corning, Inc. The event was an overwhelming success with over 75 representatives from various building industries in attendance. Mary Driscoll, interim president of the Northwest Ohio Green Building Council, presented the branch’s history, goals, and mission statement to the public and explained how the branch will become a regional source for sustainable building information. Following Ms. Driscoll’s presentation, Bob Dehne presented the process underwent by Owens Corning, Inc. to attain LEED certification for their world headquarters building. Currently, the O.C. World Headquarters Building is the only LEED-EB certified building in Northwest Ohio, having attained a "Silver" rating. Tours of the facility followed, with the evening concluding at “Green Drinks” at the Maumee Bay Brewing Company.
